Bury’s home match to Middlesbrough at Soham on 8th Dec. started with Boro taking the first goal of the evening, the boys from the north were strong especially Micheal Ableson who has recently returned from Portugal after playing Roller hockey there for 14 months. Bury applied the pressure sealing the match at 8 – 5. See the pictures

Herne Bay United will take on the 2001 CERS Cup winners Club Pati Vic (Spain) in the Champions league match on Saturday 17th November doors open 7pm at the pier pavilion, Herne Bay. Last month HBU played their first “new format” Champions League match in Porto Portugal to approx 1000 spectators.

The Kent based club is having to finance entry into the competition which includes, travel and accommodation for the two referees (approx £1000) for each home match, travel and accommodation for the team on away matches, plus all of the smaller cost like hall hire for the home matches. It is expected to cost around £11,000 to compete in this years league. To fund their participation the club are having to raise money from ticket sales and local sponsorship, any short fall will have to be picked by the players themselves.

To have this type of competition in this country will be good for our sport and makes great entertainment so keep your calendar free for 17/11/07 (HBU v Vic, Spain), 15/12/07 (HBU n Prato, Italy) and 19/1/08 (HBU v Porto, Portugal). Tickets are available at the pier at £4 per adult and £ 2.50 for children. A three home match discount ticket is available at £10 for adults and £6 for children.

Around 100 fans watched Saturdays CERS Cup first round match at the pier pavilion. Viareggio (Italy) were always going to be a tough nut to crack for Bury St Edmunds but when the Italians arrived you could feel the tension in the air when they walked through the middle of the home team spectators in the reception area of the pier.

Bury had a young team which was evident at the line up at the start of the match and Viareggio’s professional team stood tall against the our boys in green. The match started well and on the whole Bury played well against the Italians with Carlos Amaral jr. scoring the only goal for Bury in the second half of the match. The power of the visitors took its toll on the home team giving the final score of 1-13.

Bury will travel now travel to the Mediterranean town of Viareggio for their return match on 17 November.

Bury meets Viareggio (Italy) in the first round of the CERS Cup this Saturday (20^th October start 7.45pm) at the Pier Pavilion, Herne Bay. This is one of the four big matches to be held at the pier in the coming months. Herne Bay Utd. are away in Portugal on the same day to play FC Porto in their first round match of the European League. The 17^th November will see Herne Bay Utd at home to C P Vic (Spain) and Bury will be away in their return match in Viareggio Italy. So mark your diary and don’t miss this opportunity to see some good International roller hockey.

Andy McCullugh’s funeral will be held at Teesside Crematorium Acklam Rd, Middlesbrough, Cleveland TS5 7HD on Wednesday 17th October at 1pm if anyone would like to attend or send messages. Messages can be channeled to his family and the Club via Graeme Stewart on 07960 441046, MRHC Secretary Dave Fothergill or Tony Czifra.

Andy’s family have asked that the 17th be a celebration of Andy’s life, rather than a sombre ‘black tie’ day so his family have indicated that the dress code would not include black suits and ties. Finally, rather than flowers, please feel free to make a donation to a charity supporting African education (where Andy recently spent some time helping out in schools).

It is with deepest regret to inform you all that Andy McCullagh senior player of Middlesbrough Roller Hockey Club suddenly passed away on Saturday 6^th October. This devastating news has shocked our Roller Hockey community and our hearts and thoughts go out to has family.

Andy was a member of the Middlesbrough Roller Hockey Club for ten years as a player and coach of the clubs young members. He was a polite and friendly young man on and off the rink, his dedication was admired by many and his enthusiasm shown through the loyalty to his club.

We will miss you good friend and you will always be in our thoughts.

Today saw the start of the 2007 Allen Mezzanines Senoir League Cup two day event. Seven teams entered this pre season tournament encouraging players to dust off the pads and gloves and service those skates “ha ha”.

Sunday will conclude with final positions giving us an insight into the abilitys and skills of the new 2007/8 teams entering their prospective leagues. Premier team Manchester will be the ones to watch with their new young team entering the permier league.

It was decided at the end of last season not to have play offs between the the top of National Div 1 and the bottom of the Premier League. As a result of this the national executive needed to decide which teams would make up next years Premier League to bring it up to nine teams. Listed below are the teams that will make up the 2007/8 Premier League.

August’s 600 club was drawn today at the National training session at the Bushfields Sports Centre in Peterborough. In addition to the monthly £150 cash prize, the ball for the quarterly £250 was picked out by NRHA’s Coaching director Carlos Amaral. The lucky winners were Nigel Allen (former Letchworth RHC) taking the £150 prize and Ricky Jupp (Bury RHC) picked up the £250.
