Last weekend saw our England ladies win bronze at the Waldercup in Vordemwald, Switzerland. The squad of nine coached by Carlos Amaral with assistant coach Darrel Pearce and Manager Dave Fothergil used this tournament in preparation for the ladies World Championships in Vina Del Mar, Chile at the end of September.
Next weekend the girls travel to Spain to compete in the Golden Cup tournament in Blanes. This tournament and one another in Noisy le Grand, France will give the girls a higher level of hockey and the chance to play against players who will also be in Chile.

The French National Cup was contested in La Roche Sur Yon last Saturday. After a 10 hour bus journey travelling with the defending Cup winners to the host town we saw a great match of skill and speed. Last years cup winners and this years League winners SCRA St Omer went ahead 2 – 0 in the early part of the match. La Vendéenne (from La Roche Sur yon) battled hard to score 3 goals to finish 3 – 2 at have time.
The second half saw La Vendéenne pressure St Omer into some hard defending but last years cup winners could not fight off the excellent play from the host team. The final score was
La Vendéenne 5 – 3 St Omer.

Last weekend I travelled over to France to photograph the French Nation Division 1 match in St Omer. SCRA St Omer last years French Cup winners and current league leaders are 5 points clear of second position SPRS Ploufragan.
SCRA St Omer played a tactical match against Noisy le Grand (currently mid table) with good shots on goal making Noisy’s 6 foot goalkeeper focus on the ball.
It was a good match to watch along with the 300 home spectators who would have been happy with the 5 – 2 win.
